As a concerned resident of Rockland County, I fully support efforts to conserve water. However, the time has come to build a new, long-term water supply project that will ensure that Rockland has enough water to meet growing demands. I urge you to support United Water’s plan to develop the Haverstraw Water Supply Project- a necessary, healthy and reliable water supply:
Water consumption in Rockland County is well below the national average.
Even with low consumption, demand is increasing, and a water supply project that will meet the long-term needs for Rockland County must be developed.
Experts agree that the Hudson River is the most feasible and cost-effective source to satisfy the growing demand for water.
Over a dozen communities in New York State have relied on the Hudson as a drinking water source for many years.
A pilot test facility is already purifying water from the Hudson to meet or surpass all federal and state safe drinking water standards.
In addition to continuous monitoring, United Water New York analyzes over 72,000 water quality samples of its existing water system annually. The same careful analysis will be applied to any new water supply.
United Water’s plan will cost significantly less than other options, including the building of a new reservoir system or wastewater reuse.
The Project will bring millions in tax revenues and jobs to a County that needs robust economic development projects.
I once again urge you to support United Water’s plan and to use the best efforts of your office to help bring the Haverstraw Water Supply Project to Rockland County.
