The Project

The Haverstraw Water Supply Project

Pilot Study: An engineering study that began operations in 2010 has helped us to determine the most effective ways to treat Hudson River water and optimize energy and chemical use. Water that has been produced by the pilot plant is of the same or higher quality than drinking water currently consumed by Rockland County residents.

Intake Structure: The proposed full-scale project will include a water intake pumping station that will draw water from the Hudson River and be located on an unused piece of property owned by United States Gypsum and located in the Town of Haverstraw.

Water Treatment Plant: Water will be piped inland to a water treatment plant that will reside on an unused piece of property adjacent to the former Haverstraw landfill. A proven purification process will be used toTo ensure meeting demand, this plant will be capable of producing up to an additional 7.5 million gallons a day of purified drinking water.

Disposal: The wastewater and brine by-products will be disposed of at the Haverstraw Joint Regional Sewage Treatment Plant, according to all applicable environmental and health regulations.
